Q1What is the difference between classroom training and online learning?
A1Online programs allow you to learn at your own pace and go back over details and concepts you wish to revisit. It does require higher motivation than classroom learning – you need to keep yourself focused on moving to completion.

Q2How can I enroll in an online course?
A2Click on Enroll Online. An enrollment form will appear, and you will need to fill in all the required fields (marked with *). You will also need to select the payment method for the course, either credit card payment or telegraphic transfer (TT). If you choose the credit card method, the system will redirect you to a secure online payment page. Alternatively, if you do not want to pay online, you can pay by telegraphic transfer. The instructions will be emailed to you after you have enrolled.

Q3What is the difference between individual enrollment and group/business enrollment?
A3Individual enrollment is for someone who is enrolling in the course on his/her own, while group/business enrollment caters for companies which would like a few of their employees to take up the course. It also allows a business to purchase seats to pass on to another party. Group/business enrollments may be eligible for discounts. Click on the Enrollment Options link to find out more about this.

Q4How do I get started on a course?
A4On the SlingPath website home page, log in using the username and password sent to you in your enrollment confirmation email.

Q5What if I get a message that I am not enrolled in a course?
A5This means that you have not paid for the course or we have not received your payment. If you want to pay online, you can log in to the system and you will see an option to pay by credit card. Click this option to go to a secure payment page. Alternatively, if you do not want to pay online you can wire the money to the bank account given in the enrollment email sent to you.

Q6Why can't I log in using the username and password received in the email?
A6You may have entered the wrong username or password. Please note that the password is case-sensitive. You may have accidentally turned on your Caps Lock option. If you still cannot log in, please email admin@slingpath.com.

Q7What can I do if I forget my username or password?
A7Click the link which says "Forgot username or password?" on the website home page. You will have to correctly answer the security question which you chose during your enrollment to allow the system to retrieve your details. Then we will email you your username and new password.

Q8Are there any resources that can help me in my study?
A8Yes. If you click Resources, you will see two books that are very useful for both the Basic SNG Operations and Practical SNG Operations courses. Just click the links on that page to buy either. There is also a link to buy a reduced-price Suunto Tandem compass/clinometer.

Course-Specific FAQs

Q1What can I get out of this course?
Q2How long does the course take?
Q3What sort of support comes with this program?
Q4What is a practical center?

Q1What can I get out of this course?
A1The Basic SNG Operations course was developed to provide a possible solution to the global phenomenon of satellite interference. Interference can result from poor operator skills and training. The Basic SNG Operations course provides the operator with a thorough introduction to the theoretical knowledge to use satellites. On successful completion of the course, you will be issued a Record of Competency in Basic SNG Operations.

To become a fully certified SNG operator, you also need to take the Practical SNG Operations course. Take a look at the "practical center" question below to find out more. Students who have successfully completed both courses will obtain a Certificate in SNG Operations.

Q2How long does the course take?
A2The course is made up of seven self-study modules (each taking an estimated one hour to complete successfully). There is one assessment that is automatically marked, so feedback will be immediate once you have submitted your assessment.

Q3What sort of support comes with this program?
A3If you have any technical difficulties, you can email admin@slingpath.com. If you have any questions related to course content, you will be able to post these in the Notice Board section of the course. Answers to these questions will be answered by a SlingPath tutor and posted on the Notice Board within 72 hours.

Q4What is a practical center?
A4The online course Basic SNG Operations is an excellent introduction to the theory behind operating a satellite. You can then progress to an advanced course called Practical SNG Operations. This practical course is run at centers around the world.

The practical centers are fully outfitted with current SNG equipment and will replicate a proper SNG environment (without the wind and rain, of course!).

Each practical center will provide students with an additional practical manual and the opportunity to uplink multiple times while working with a certified trainer. Training groups will be small, allowing time for discussion and personal guidance.

Sessions will be three days in length depending on student numbers and will be held every three months (minimum).

We have a wide range of practical centers around the world and each facility and trainer has been carefully chosen by our SlingPath team. Click here to find a center near you.
